I've been collecting vintage computers for the past several years, and have been into electronics longer than that. I've amassed some chips in my few years, including some fairly uncommon ones (and some in a few very uncommon computers!)
Recently, I have "hit the jackpot," so to speak. Not only did I get an Intellec 4 MOD 40, I also got an 8 MOD 80 to boot, as well as a sad-condition Altair 8800b. With the 4 MOD 40, I discovered that the processor is an 4040 ES, as well as the C4289. Too cool!
The 8 MOD 80 also has a plain old C8080, not the C8080A. I guess that makes it slightly more uncommon, but it's to be expected as it's an early Intel system.
I haven't discovered too many interesting chips in the Altair yet. It uses a regular old white ceramic and gold C8080A. Early Altairs used a C8080, but this is not an early model.
Anyways, I took some pictures of some more random chips I recently received. I think there are certainly some goodies in here, but I have yet to have time to look them all up. I'd love to get some feedback on what I have here. Enjoy!
I can't quite seem to figure out how pictures work here. When I put them inline, they are way too big to be viewed on most monitors. Attaching seems to generate a "empty file" error. In any event, here's the album, with descriptions and questions:

Also, for those interested in the Intellec 4 MOD 40, here's an album for that:

| Awesome collection! I had to compress my pics so that they would work on the site too, try that. |

Very nice collection!
I was especially interested in the die picture of TMS9900 and SBP9900.

I don't have a picture yet. I'm on vacation at the moment, but I will be taking pictures of the 8 MOD 80 when I get a chance to sit down and restore it. |

I don't have an objective small enough to capture more of the die yet, but I was able to get a few random shots. I also x-rayed some of the unlabeled "TMS9900" style parts I have and can say with 90% confidence that they too are in fact TMS9900 judging from the wire bond locations and die size. Definitely different than the SBP9900, if it is in fact one.

| TMS9900 and SBP9900 have totally different dies due to different manufacturing technologies. TMS9900 is made in NMOS whereas SBP9900 is made in I2L bipolar technology. They even have different pinouts for power supply and clock signals. They are not drop-in replacements. |

Attaching pics to the post is easy - just make sure the photo is less than 250K and it will work. _________________ best rgds.

Thank you for the die shot of SBP9900. It's very beautiful.
I have an SBP9900, but saw the die photo for the first time.
