Hm, maybe he was a member here?
You don't need to tell names if you don't like but maybe you can tell us where you're from?

My advice is - take your time!! - You might just refine something into a micro-gram of gold that is worth hundreds as a collectors item. The people on this site will give you honest opinion - rest assured on that. Please please don't give the lot to the first gold scrapper that offers you a wad to "take it off your hands..."

ha....yes, i have to ask.....

whats a wafer?

and is there a way to post pics up? i will happily put them all out there if there is... i know i have everything from Intel's C8231A, 3107, 3301s to TMS9900JDL but as for the 5000 chips inbetween those are a puzzle that i am oh so slowly piecing together...lol...wafer is new to me.... was just starting to feel a bit more confident...ha...

so. if you can tell me what it is i will let ya know. most likely, yes, he seems to have everything...it is literally a garage full, floor to ceiling and over 10 years worth.

and if there is a way to post pics i will happily do so.

thanks!

ha ha...moving right along here.....figured out the pic posting.....

although i really have no clue what pics would be best to show...so here is a few showing examples of what i have trays of.

basically, he has tons of Intel, AMD, HP, Motorola, SDT and TMS along with lots of Zilog, Mostek, Analog Devices, BB and many other random companies. Oh, and Fujitsu and S? about 80% are ceramic, a lot of which has gold but I'm finding that is not so important in regards to collectables and seeing as i have a garage full of boxes containing hundreds of boards ready to be refined I'm thinking that all the chips put separately in trays were either special to him in some way or still waiting to be sorted for that reason. ha, now if only there weren't so many trays...lol

so anyways, here's a few...if anyone can give me certain numbers/companies to look for, that would help exponentially in the bringing a sense of purpose to this "sorting." John has been bombarded with my emails asking whats this or that and has been a ridiculous wealth of knowledge.

i can easily see my dad here and see so much of him in the honest and upfront character that I've encountered since starting this adventure, both in the refining world and here and it blows me away. most other forums, most other subjects or hobbies, people are not as apt to be friendly and outwardly helpful and it has been so nice to see the complete opposite. it is how my dad is and it fits him well and i feel privileged to be able to see that part of him...so thank you.

and hopefully the pics come thru... Rolling Eyes

these pics are definitely not the best, unfortunately my phone is misplaced at the moment, so all the good upclose shot of the rest are not available at the moment...lol.... again, if anyone throws out a certain number, i will look until i find it. and i will post more pics as soon as possible.

thanks again!

P4001, P4002-1, P4002-2, P4003, P4004
also with D or C prefic (then ceramic) are the early Intel MCS-4 chips
C packages in complete white are very nice, those showing grey traces such as the 3301A are the best package (speaking of DIP packages - which are the rectangles with pins at both long sides)

Many people collect Intel only or at least brand-oriented, others, most collectors of more modern chips collect every variant/Spec.

So if you have the time and chance it might make sense to sort by manufacturer, package type and show images in that sense.
When you take pictures of boards please show the complete boards and maybe someone asks for details.

Eg. for me the 3301 board is of interest:-)

Speaking of image quality: Yes, they might be better but we have seen much worse;-)

You can also do a written list of the codes on the chips, in most cases it is good for a start to identify the chip type, in most cases the first line.
Eg. 3301A, C2117-3, C3107, P4002-1.
Add if they are soldered on a board, desoldered, if they have clean or rotten, missing pins, scratched, chipped, ...

Looking forward to more pictures, take your time, Michael

Ah, and wafers are round, thin and very fragile things. Chip dies are produced not piece by piece but on such a wafer. Depending on size more or less.
Wafers are (early) 2 ", modern ones are much much bigger.

These are wafers - round thin glass discs with circuit patterns on them - some are dull grey and some like these are very colorful. Diameter ranging from 1" to 12"

got the camera squared away....
i tried to take pics of an example of every company or model number, at least on all the odd ball ones...as for Intel, AMD, TMS, Motorola, SDT, Fujitsu and alot more, there are literally hundreds but i tried to take anough pics so the companies would at least be prominent... i also have trays and trays not yet gone thru and a ton of Intel and AMD from 1980 and up so if there are any specific numbers i should be looking for that would be great to hear!
