|

Hi all I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 Laptop and was wondering if the
AMD Phenom II X640 Black Edition would be compatible and if my computer would be any better.
Current Specs
AMD V120 2.20 GHz Processor
8.00 GB DDR 3 RAM (7.74 Usable)
232 GB HDD (104 GB Free)
Display Adapter ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
and the OS is a 64 bit Windows 7 home premium
Would adding the processor work well with my computer?
If anyone needs more info just ask , and any help would be appreciated. |

Yes the Phenom II X640 should be compatible, but note that it runs hotter than the V120 - 45W rather than 25W. I do not know if the cooler on the Presario CQ62 was designed for the higher heat output. If your usage does not require the CPU to be at maximum frequency most of the time, then this will be a less important issue, because the CPU will be idle and cool much of the time.
Performance should improve notably. Going from single to dual core helps a lot, and the frequency jump from 2200 to 3200 MHz also helps.
You may have a hard time finding that particular CPU. |

| Thanks for the info it helps a lot but is there a device to keep my laptop cooler, and if this one is hard to find do you have any other recommended processors that will work with my laptop? |

There are notebook cooling pads which are like a lap board with fans in it. Coolermaster and others sell such devices.
Any of the S1g4 processors should be compatible:

Of these, probably the cheapest worthwhile upgrade is something like Athlon II P340 or Turion II P540. You will have to look and see what you can find at your desired price. |
