I've only seen one other like this, which makes me wonder, how common are they? Does anyone else even know about them?

Yep, my chip, didn't find it on eBay. Been trying to find one for years, and then just happened to stumble across it.

It came in a very rare computer from the 1970s. It was a kit though, so not likely that similar computers would also have this chip.

I had a chip very similar to this, only it was a 6504 made by Synertek, also in 1976. The 6504 is a pin-reduced version in a 28 pin DIP but the die is nearly identical to the 6502. I gave it to the visual6502.org guys to depackage for some die shots. You can see the chip their page. I also supplied the other two ceramic MOS 6504's shown on it:

http://visual6502.org/images/pages/MOS_6504_die_shots.html

I'm very curious if the Synertek die is any different from the MOS one.

One of the MOS 6504's I sent them is dated 1975. I have about 20 or so more of these 6504's made in 75/76 sitting on factory antistat carriers along with 20 or 30 MOS 6532's dated 75/76 also. I got them from an electronics class that stopped teaching awhile back. (also got a bunch of 4003's and 4002's, but alas no 4001's or 4004's).

Yep, that one was installed in an Apple 1, which was how I found out they existed, but I had never seen another. I had been hunting for one for a few years after seeing that one. I believe they are extremely rare making the MOS MCS 6502 look common. In fact, I know of many more 6501's than this one.
