| I wonder how they will be shipped. Wafer carriers can be pretty expensive themselves. Any idea? |

mmm - my suspicion is just bubble wrapped. I ship all my wafers in mountains of bubble and 95% of the time they arrive safely now that I worked out how to pack them. In the beginning when I shipped wafers it was a nightmare with about 80% failure rate but trial and error works and I finally got the packaging just about right
If these came in wafer carriers I would be VERY happy indeed...but I doubt they will. _________________ best rgds.

| Yeah, thankfully silicon is pretty durable. I handle 4" wafers almost every day, and I've only broken one due to mishandling. Most of the time, we carry them in either Pyrex petri dishes or process boats/boxes, depending on the lot size. When shipped, though, they always go into a clamshell shipper or a shipping boat/box. But certainly too expensive for two $5 wafers from eBay, I'd guess! |

Yes - interested to hear you are in the process industry? What kind of devices are you making and can we have some pics or purchases!!!! _________________ best rgds.

I'm actually a student and I'm working in a fairly new lab at my university. Most what I do I can't talk about, but I can say it's 3D silicon integration. Pretty neat (and fairly new) stuff. I'm afraid I can't take pictures or get a hold of any samples, since all of it is rather hush-hush. Wish I could share more; it really is neat stuff.
I can say that there's a chance of me building some 4004 devices within the coming months. I will have to make some mask artwork and add them on to some other masks that our old lab uses for class purposes. I will also have to convert from PMOS to NMOS, and I'm not sure what I'll have to do differently. There may be a chance of us going PMOS just for this, but I think that's slim. I'm quite new to active silicon devices, so this will be a really big undertaking for me. If I can do it, though...it'll be great!
If anyone is interested in helping me with some mask artwork, or knows anything about converting PMOS to NMOS, that'd be awesome. PM me and we can talk. I do believe the NMOS process we use for the class uses depletion-mode FETs as load resistors. |

| Yup, I have in fact chatted with one of the main guys behind the 4004 project, and they do have the artwork. It's rather poor quality bitmapped images, so that's not so good for what I want to do. Nevertheless, it's a great start. |

yes I did but they seem like test patterns to me and I have loads of test wafers - or do you think thy are cpu? _________________ best rgds.
