Hi! I was surfing the net one day when there's a sudden power outage. To my surprise, the UPS didn't kicked in, only to find out that the battery inside was already expired. The next day when I turned my unit on, it won't boot. The initial stage of booting process was normal but later a text will appear that reads like this: "Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device & press a key." The same text will appear after I press the reset button. There are times my unit booted normally, but sometimes the same problem recurred. What does it mean? Do I have a damaged hard drive? Can I still fix this? Please help. Thanks to any replies.

1. Damaged IDE controller
2. Damaged HDD
3. Damaged PSU - to low power to start HDD
4. System is crashing - check HDTune scan for disk errors. Maybe reinstalling system will solve problem.

Any physical damages you will not be able to repair.

on rare occasion i have had a bios get jumbled up with a power outage and kind of "forget" what it was doing.. i've went into the bios and reset the order that the bios booted from and checked everything else over for recognition of parts and all.. once everything seemed fine i would restart and the computer would be it's all self again.

you could try this as one of the possibilities. but the first answer you got was right there. it doesn't seem like your power supply is bad because you say it will boot some times. you might try clearing your CMOS and resetting your bios to default as well to see if that cures your issue.

let us know what you figure out.
