When gaming, your CPU load increases, and your dynamic clock speed reflects this. It is working as designed.

Maybe your processor supports Turbo Boost/Turbo Core feature, and your friend's CPU doesn't support it. That feature allows CPU to run at higher than nominal frequency when necessary.

considering you have not revealed what 2 processors you are trying to compare. i would say by the current evidence that a bios update would most likely do little to nothing for your CPU's current performance.

you comparing your processor to your friends if they are not the same processor in the same set up may just be like trying to compare apples to oranges.

as for power management lets put it like this.

when work is slow; (sitting idle) the computer only uses a piece of your processor to stay on top of the work given (such as 15% out of 100%). when you game, you are giving the computer a lot of work to do and thus the cpu reflects this by using the full processor and in turn when you look to see how much of the cpu is being used, you will find it to be 100%.

now taking this information into account, all processors are NOT the same. some are faster, some are bigger, some are slower. this is how they are made. now the game you play may in fact tax your processor to 100% because it's demanding enough computing power from your processor to do this. your friend on the other hand may have a faster processor, so therefore what the game demands of his processor is exactly what is demanded of your processor but since his is faster, his will be able to take on this demand with out using all of his processor and thus the reflections of 85% processor load reflects this.

i hope this sheds some light on your issue and understand a bios update is generally meant for support of hardware or bug fix's which i see none here. your processor seems to be supported because the computer is operational with it's current CPU.

if you share what your processor and motherboard are, we could possibly do some research to help you figure out if a bios update is necessary.

personally i think it's unlikely, but in the would of computer components, you just never know with out all the facts.
