The seller does actually have some genuine sk096 chips. I sent an email saying why I thought the chips were fake and he sent me photos of his remaining stock, some of which were fake and some of which were real.

If you can get an xtra "fake" for cheap, I'll take one or more, if with diff. s-specs. Smile

as they are marked as 1997 production and i have seen 1999 486s still with the classic drop e in intel.. i would be very suspect. Crying or Very sad

My first mistake was thinking these were 1997 production... they are 2007 production

Intel's Product Discontinuance Notice
Intel Corporation has been manufacturing its MCS® 51, MCS® 251 and MCS®
96 Microcontroller Product Lines for over 25 years now, and the Intel®
186 Processor Families, the Intel386™ Processor Families and the
Intel486™ Processor Families for over 15 years now. Additionally, we
have been manufacturing the i960® 32 Bit RISC Processor Families for
over 15 years. However, at this time, the forecasted volumes for these
product lines are now too low to continue production of these products
beyond the year 2007. Therefore, Intel will cease manufacturing
silicon wafers for our 6" based processes in 2007. Affected products
include Intel's MCS®51, MCS®251, MCS®96, 80X18X, 80X38X, 80X486DXX, the
i960® Family of Microcomputers, in addition to the 82371SB, 82439TX and
the 82439HX Chipsets. Intel has no choice but to issue a Product
Discontinuance Notice (PDN) effective 3/30/06. Last time orders will
be accepted till 3/30/07 with last time ship dates of 9/28/07.

Intel PGA 486 sSpecs still in production in 2006
A80486DX2DICE Q0716
A80486DX266 SX911
A80486DX4100 SK096
A80486DX4100 SK101
A80486SX33 SX931

As your SK096 is week 50 2007 I am guessing Intel slightly extended production to the end of 2007

and more interesting is Intel PDF of what existing production chips will be changed over from drop e logo to the new logo

I can't believe Intel made the 486 until '07.. It is funny seeing the Core series Intel logo on a 486 though!!!!

One would have to wonder what the reasoning was to change it from the dropped "e" as that was quite a unique trade mark Question

Wanted to discuss one unusual thing about these sspecs with late dates without making new thread.
They have packages with large lid.
SK096: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/files/sk096_478.jpg
SK101 (bottom right): http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/files/00134_1_470.jpg
SX911: http://www.t-cpu.com/80486/image.raw?view=image&type=img&id=493
SX931: probably too?
However at least for the first two sspecs dies should be too small for this package type.

So it's the new, special package?
Why did Intel make it for such low volume product?
Did they use the same dies as old version of the sspec?
Or they all fakes/remarks (too many with different dates though)?
Maybe UCA can help with the last questions.
Or someone willing to decap one of these.
