|
|
Hey guys,
I have an acer aspire 5534 with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 L310 - 1.2 GHz, 13 watt and am looking to upgrade to squeeze out more life (and usefulness) from this laptop.
I found on ebay an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 - 2 GHz, 35 watt for just over $8 with free shipping.
Both are S1 (s1g1) - the only issue I think is the huge difference in the wattage. The L310's 13 watt vs the TL-60's 35 watt. Currently the L310 is running 50-60°C under load. Both have the same max operating temp (95°C). Nearly everything is identical (core stepping, microarchitecture).
Good move? Bad move? Suggestions and comments? |

AMD Turion™ 64 X2 dual-core processor L510 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.60 GHz, DDR2 800 MHz, 20 W)
this is the best cpu that comes standard in the laptops cpu lineup. if anything would work i would bet on this one.
one post says that any s1 socket cpus would work but with higher performance comes higher heat and you may end up overheating because the cooling solution wasn't meant for the higher power.
you may also have issues with the bios recognition. but in any case i would personally stick with the best thats on the website.
let me know what you figure out and if your adventure into the unknown works out. |

The L510 was actually my first choice, however I can't find one on amazon at all and one on ebay for not less than $100.
Believe me, if I could find an L510 for as cheap as I found the other one, I wouldn't be posting for help lol. |

You can get AMD TK-42 instead. It has the same specs as the L510, it even has the same stepping. You can get one for less than $25 on eBay.

Just looked at it. That one may be the one to get then as it is almost identical to the L510. Thanks for that |
