|
|
Are chips that the database describes as being Socket Fr6(1207) compatible with motherboards that are only described as Socket F (1207)? I'm wondering whether I will need a second 4-way board to test the chips I just bought from John, or if there is a chance they will work in the HP board I just bought with quad 8218.
If I will need another board, what do I need to look for in seller descriptions? _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

It depends on the board. Some socket F boards do support Second Generation, Third Generation (Quad-Core) and Six-Core Opterons. What is the board name and/or chipset on the board?

It's a board from a Dell Poweredge 6950. So far I have established that it can take 3rd gen Opterons, but 6-core Opterons I'm not sure about. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

It looks like it works with Barcelona quad-core Opterons, but doesn't support Shanghai Opterons. Six-core Opterons are not supported either.

Oh well, looks like that means one more board to keep on my shopping list. I have a habit buying wrong boards! I think better research is in order for my next purchase _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
