Compaq Presario V2000 AMD and Gateway 7422GX cpu upgrade

High all. I'm new to the forum and new to the world of AMD. However I'm pretty knowledgeable about computers in general with no real specialization in any one field. I was always an Intel guy but I recently acquired two laptops for the low low low price of free and they are AMD systems so obviously I have questions about them. They are fairly old systems but with exception to the Presario V2000 the Gateway does most of what I want it to do just fine (web browsing, DVDs, Source based games and even STALKER SoC) thanks to its more powerful Athlon processor and Radeon 9600 gpu. However the Presario not so much. I've noticed that both of these laptops use the standard Socket 754 interface for their processors. So I was wondering....

Could any desktop Socket 754 Athlon 64 processor work in these laptops? I know I would have to remove the integrated heat spreader on the desktop processors but would the motherboards accept the cpus? I've tried all sorts of google searching and it appears to me nobody had tried to stick an Athlon 64 desktop cpu into one of these laptops. I know with my old Sony VIAO (Socket 478 Northwood) would accept any desktop 478 cpu but because of the motherboard the FSB was limited to 533mhz and newer features such as Hyper-Threading were not enabled but it was possible to use a desktop processor on that laptop.

So anyone have any information or experience with dropping a desktop Athlon into one of these laptops?

Desktop cpus will not work in Compaq V2000. You have to find Turion CPU for this socket. S1 Turion's will not fit too.

Just for Gateway I don't know what hardware is it.

Thanks for the warm welcome johnorun. No I was born near chicago but moved to the northwest corner of the state in 2004.

What is a S1 Turion? Is that a different name for Socket 754?
