http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-Opteron%206386%20SE%20-%20OS6386YETGGHK.html

Opteron 6380 is 115w 3.4 gh and
Opteron 6386 is 140w 3.5 gh

Why is the difference in power ?
for 0.1 gh 25 w more ?

Why the big difference in price? 1400$ and 1000$ for 0.1 gh ?

the 6386 SE is a faster processor. they do not have the same frequencies.

the 6380 starts out at 2.5 ghz where the 6386 starts out at 2.8 ghz.

the 6386 also turbo boosts a bit higher.

the difference in power is because this processor has 16 cores and to get each core to run faster, the processor is going to need more power, so therefore this is where you see the increase.

the price is dependent on performance. 16 cores at a base clock of .3 ghz higher equals out to 4.8 ghz of extra speed over the slower counterpart.

the turbo between each chip is .1ghz yes, but the bottom end where the processor will see most of it's use when used in applications it's intended for is actually a good deal faster than it's slower counterpart.

I think the answer is simpler than that. Manufacturers give the same TDP for a range of processors in the same class, so the 6380 will be at the top of the range for 115W, meaning it is more likely to hit that level of power usage than a slower clocked model. The 6386 will be at the bottom of the range for the 140W TDP (assuming more processors in the 6300 family are released), so at stock speeds might probably never use the full 140W it's rated for.

Thanks, but do not agree 2.5 or 2.8
What matters is the Turbo frequency
Eventually need more power
They are reaching the same level of tension( 3.4 or 3.5 )

this is not extra speed

I did not understand what you write? What's the connection?
Where do you see it listed? Who promises to you?

What are you basing your answer? Articles? have proof?
Or just your logic?

Thanks for the attitudes and responses

I found the difference

6380
Turbo frequency 2800 MHz (more than 8 cores)
3400 MHz (8 cores or less)

6386
Turbo frequency 3200 MHz (more than 8 cores)
3500 MHz (8 cores or less)

It's not 0.1 GH
it's 0.4 gh
for 16 cores
It's a big difference

It seems the 2 questions you have asked so far, this one and the SSE4 one were answered but you whine and pick fault because you don`t like the answers, if you are really even interested other than making trouble. You don`t like how the info is set up. Just go somewhere else that might be more to your liking.

I`ve been here for 10 years so I`m not going anywhere.

If you don`t like how things are done here make your own site and put the info you want, but I doubt you could do that.
Like I said before leave and don`t come back if you don`t like it here.
