| I am building a computer from all new parts. I have everything needed for powering up but when I push the power on button, my cpu loads with power for only 1 to 2 secs and then turns right back off. I have a roommate with the exact same board and we switched cpus. When his cpu is on my board it powers up fine and when my cpu is on his board is powers up fine. So that leaves me puzzled because we have the same board, same cpu, my cpu works on his board, his cpu works on my board, but my cpu won't work on my board. I there anything I'm missing on why my cpu doesn't load on my board? |

Sounds like you have a short between your motherboard and the case.
Remove the motherboard and put some insulating washers ( I use M3 fiber washers, a red/brown colour) ontop of the standoffs used to hold the motherboard in place. You may find it useful to use some quickset glue to hold the washers to the standoffs. the other choice is to use all plastic standoffs if you can find them. If you cant find the right washers, cut up a small piece of clear plastic (not thin type), like the sort used for paper wallets. Everything should be fine after this. Good luck. |

| hmm.. I think I misread your post, his cpu works in your board, very strange. Throw it all out the window and buy a pencil and a pad of writing paper. |

that doesnt make sense, as you tried your cpu in his board and his cpu in your board. Take it all apart and check all the plugs on the power supply leads have contacts in them. Make sure the heatsink is on the cpu, make sure the cooling fans are connected to the motherboard.. you are connecting a cpu cooling fan to the cpu cooling fan header on the motherboard? Some motherboards have a fit if there is no fan. I am just guessing now so I cant help you further. Best of luck, it a pain when these things dont work. I was only joking about the paper and pencil. |

Just swap your motehrboard with your roommate. Both cpus will be working, and you will be both happy ...  |

yup, thats what I'd do -
however, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the CPU's are probably ever so slightly different.
Can you give us the model and part code of both CPU's.
