Ok guys, here's a clearer mission statement for what I think we should do with the site...

We all have our own personal 'collection' sites, which is cool, I'm keeping mine, too.. This isn't a replacement for them.

What I'd like this to end up being is a supplement to our own sites.. We all have a lot of knowledge about this kind of thing, some more specific than others, like CPUShack's expertise on Cyrix and EPROMs, for example..

I'm not thinking of this just as a bunch of processor pictures.. Here's a list of possible things we could have:

* Information and history on different companies like intel, amd, cyrix, transmeta, fairchild, etc

* Information on individual processors, like the amd k7 and intel 486 dx articles I already have done

* Explanations and definitions for all the little terms that go with cpus, such as off die cache or secc

* Information on other processor-bits, like sockets (how many pins, physical dimensions, etc)

* Reference lists of processors, part numbers, etc.. such as an sSpec list, all steppings of Athlon XPs, etc

* Reference lists of clock speed/multiplier/fsb combos, default voltages, etc

* lists of known fake processors (such as geodes > 333mhz, gold pentiums, etc) to help other collectors avoid fakes

* a collectors guide, listing rare processors and their approximate value

and lots more.. really, anything you can imagine doing, we could do.. the best part is that anyone can edit it (but we can always undo those edits), so its a real collaborative effort.. we can all fine-tune eachothers work and make it better.. sites like sandpile have lots of technical information on processors, but with this we could go beyond that and into the history of a processor, like explaining why theres no 486 dx3, or why any geode above 333 is fake..

are you guys sold yet or am i wasting my time Sad[/url]

Here's something that I hope will generate some interest..

I've whipped up an article on the Opteron: http://www.cpudb.com/wiki/AMD_Opteron

I'm sure theres some errors in there somewhere though, and I don't know if my description of all the cores is accurate or not.. also theres probably lots of other things that could be mentioned..

you guys can edit the article by clicking on the 'edit' link at the top..
