A good read.
John, the site seemed very slow at times, sometimes taking more than 10 seconds to display the front page.

Very nice article, John.
The Toshiba T88000 is also very nice. I have been looking for the chip for some years.
On the T88000, there is a following article:
Masamichi Sugai et al.: "16-Bit SOS Microprocessor T88000", Toshiba Review, No. 132, pp. 33-36 (1981).
It is a unique microprocessor in that it is fabricated with the SOS technology and that it has a 16 by 16 bit parallel multiplier and a barrel shifter (which can be used to perform floating-point addition in one clock) on chip.
