I have an Athlon XP motherboard (ASUS A7V333, the DDR) which I just upgraded the processor from an Athlon XP 2200? with 256 KB of L2 cache, to an Athlon XP also 2200? with 512 KB of L2 cache. Considering that the new processor runs at the exact same 104 degrees Fahrenheit, around 36 degrees Centigrade temperature, I am vexed that the Q Fan adjustment in the motherboard bios list is now grayed out, running the fans full on. Short of getting out the drill and installing rheostats for the fans on the back of the computer, can someone come up with an easy fixing? Fred Jodry, KA2PYQ@YAHOO.COM

I'm going to go with the fact that motherboard doesn't list Barton core Athlon XPs on it's CPU compatibility list (only lists Thoroughbred and Thorton core chips for the 2200+). It only shows support for Barton-based chips for speeds over 2500+. You may make sure that the board is on the latest BIOS revision.

Thanks mavroxur. I still wonder if a fix could be found inside of a Barton versus previous types pinout list.
