|
|
I have a few old 386 computers that I want to sell. I believe they all have a 386DX CPU, 387SX math coprocessor, and an 82385 cache controller, all of which are large purple ceramic chips. I would like to sell the computers as whole units, but I can pull chips and other parts if that is preferred. If you buy the motherboard to use, you're going to need the RAM card as well as the power supply, since the motherboard isn't a standard one. Please make me an offer, preferably in US dollars. Payment is to be made through PayPal using the "family/friends" option, and the buyer pays the fees.

I'll post pictures tomorrow. I'll have to tear the computers apart again to get them, and I didn't have time to do that today.
EDIT: Pictures of the chips inside one of the computers. I think I misread the number on the FPU, and that it is a 387, not a 387SX. Let me know if there are any other pictures of the computer(s) you want to see.

| No interest from anyone here? Oh well. I'll try selling them on eBay. I'll update this if they sell. Until then, they can still be bought from me if anyone's interested. |

I haven't been to this forum for quite a while. These computers are still available if anyone's interested.
Also, some more information about these computers:
They have 1MB of RAM built in, one 3 1/2" floppy drive, one 5 1/4" floppy drive, no hard drive, and a RAM expansion board. One is 2MB. I think the others are 4MB. One is missing part of its chassis as well as the internal speaker and battery, but this is not visible from the outside.
They all power on and seem to boot properly.
I also have other parts available, such as I/O cards, that I could include with them if anyone is interested. |

Shipping to Germany shouldn't be a problem, but it could end up costing a lot. These computers are heavy.
I can disassemble the computers and ship just the parts that you want instead of the whole computer to reduce the cost. |

I have to take a look what parts I need, there is much stuff in the cellar to search for
I can tell you further information when the other parts are checked. But it may take a while.
I am especially interested in diver-software and video adapters. |

| These computers have the video adapter built into the motherboard. If you want I/O cards, let me know what you want and I'll see if I have it. |

Since waiting for someone to make an offer hasn't really worked, I'll specify a price.
$30 per computer + actual shipping cost
The shipping cost for a complete system will be from $30-$60 in the 48 contiguous states of the U.S., depending on how far away you live. International shipping will be even more. Eliminating the heavy steel case and floppy drives will reduce this considerably. |

One computer has 3MB of RAM, the other two have 5MB.
VGA is built in, but is not truly VGA compatible. I think it doesn't support MDA, CGA, and EGA emulation.
Yes, the computers all boot properly. The BIOS runs through its tests without any errors.
One needs a new floppy drive cable, they may or may not need new floppy drives, two have dead CMOS batteries, and one has neither a CMOS battery nor the built-in speaker.
They don't have any other I/O cards installed right now.
I'll try to upload a photo of the entire motherboard later.
I'll also get the pinout of the power supply connector so a generic power supply can be used if you want just the motherboard and RAM expansion board.
The weight of the entire computer with disk drives is approximately 35lbs. This is why shipping a complete unit is so expensive.
I will test each computer before I ship it to make sure they still boot properly. |

I retested them all, and they all boot MS-DOS (this was a good opportunity to test that MS-DOS 1.1 diskette to make sure it still worked) and read floppy disks without any problems. I even fixed the one that wasn't reading disks at all - it turns out that the drives were fine but the cable was bad, so I replaced it. Now everything works as it should. |

Nice pics, think your diskette is "IBM DOS 1.0" though. Wondered if IBM ever released a millennium bug fix for all those 1.0 users out there.... But couldn't find one, this site claims to but the download links are dead! http://www.lanet.lv/simtel.net/msdos/sysutl-pre.html
If there was one I reckon you'd need a bios update too. Another site claims that only DOS 3.3 and above can cope with the turn of the century, might be time to upgrade your diskette mate.
Out of morbid curiosity, how noisy are the psu's and how much does a the entire unit weigh without a monitor? Roughly will do, cheers |
