|
|
| With the introduction of the latest ivy bridge processors (with 55W TDP) along with the latest mobo specs available in the market today from different vendors to support the new architecture, I can surmise that the upcoming haswell architecture will further lower the TDP rating of their chips. As Intel progresses with its architecture, more so with its power efficiency. Not only that, motherboard manufacturers also introduce some power saving technologies in their products (like EPU in Asus or DrMos in MSI). Now my question lies on PSU efficiency. Since the latest technology offers a lower power draw both in idle and in full load, does an 80+ certified 500W PSU under 20% load be efficient enough to handle this load? I specified a 500W PSU coz that's the available minimum wattage mostly available in the market today and power efficiency usually kicks in at around 20% load. Or do I need a lower wattage PSU? I asked this coz my 1155 ivy bridge set up is almost complete but without a PSU and I want a power efficient unit to start with. I'm not into gaming, I usually do 3D modelling and photo editing. Any advice shall be appreciated. Thanks! |
