|
|
The following is shown on the "AMD FX-8350 specifications" page under FAQ.
"Safe CPU temperatures are 60 degrees Celsius and below. It may still run fine with CPU temperatures,
exceeding 60C threshold by a few degrees. Running the FX-8350 close to 70 degrees and higher is not recommended."
1. Does this refer to the CPU "Core" or "Socket" temperature?
2. What is the source for CPU-World's AMD maximum temperature recommendations?
3. Elsewhere I have seen a value of TJMax = 90C. Where does this value come from? How is it related to the maximum temperature shown here?
4. Does AMD document this anywhere?
Most programs only show one of these and often do not indicate which one it is.
For example, after comparing several programs I have found that:
These show CPU Core Temperature:
HWMonitor: AMD FX-8350 Package Temperature
Angus Monitor: Core 1-8
Core Temp: CPU Temp
These show CPU Socket Temperature
HWMonitor: TMPIN2
Angus Monitor: CPU Socket
EasyTune6: CPU
I have found that the "Socket" temperature to be about 12C higher than the "Core" temperature.
I have found this difference to be the same whether at idle or at full load. |

I believe it refers to core temperature. The 60 - 70 degrees numbers were provided by AMD customer service, if I'm not mistaken their response was posted in overclock.net's forum. I doubt that this is documented anywhere (I mean official documentation). AMD does provide maximum temperatures for Richland / Trinity APUs, and those are in the 70C - 74C range.

TJMax relates to the maximum tempature the cpu core can withstand before serious damage occurs.
the maximum operating tempature is well below TJMax but is calculated as close to the core as possible.
generally speaking i have found that cpu's tend to have a maximum operating tempature of 62-67C anything above that and they crash or throttle. i would not recommend trying to see a cpu's maximum tempature. |
