OK... we are agreed then - need a private forum.
There is a lot of stuff I want to discuss!

Sounds very good.
Dues can be the making and breaking. I have never agreed with a flat rate fee for any membership association.
I am all for an association, I think it is an important step forward to unify all the collectors out there and to act as a resource for info. |

You can add me to the list. I think the idea of a unified association is great and I'd happily pay an annual subscription to gain the benefits that we could all get from it. I'd even do what I can toward any admin (although there will be more qualified or skilled people than me for much of it, I'd love to be more than just a number on a list).
$20 sounds great to me, it's not too much for most people (I'm unable to work because of long term illness, but I know I could afford that, so it shouldn't be restrictive for too many people).
I especially like the idea of having member access to a datasheet archive - there are a lot of datasheets for various processors, such as early Cyrix and spec updates for 386 chips, that I have never been able to get my hands on (i386 spec updates that are currently available don't show all the 386 variations they ever had). Datasheets for companies that have merged with other companies are also impossible to find, and I have only a very limited number (all of which can be sent to others who want copies), and I'd love to have either downloadable copies or library copies to extract data from. I'm sure it's even worse for older chips.
Of course, bulk buying with other collectorts would be another great advantage (who wouldn't like to save potentially £100's or $1000's a year for a $20 subscription?). _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

I'll be launching a VICCA website soon
I also will be working on the VICCA charter
Somethings that have come to mind as VICCA member benefits
1) Newsletter on latest chip news, rare finds, groupbuys
2) Discounts/first 'dibs' on groupbuys
3) communal ordering from places like demotronics and other brokers
4) Chip testing/certification
5) Discounts on VICCA publications, such as the Intel Guide
6) Cross linking with all member sites
7) Member access to datasheet archives (in a more refined way then Sam has so far (no offense to Sam))
International reshipping, I do this alot already. It would be easier to be restricted to VICCA members only
9) If possible , representation from chipmakers, it would be nice to have a few chips donated a month for giving to a drawn museum.
10) A combined Trade list page
Dues: I think dues are a requirement for most any association. I would like to keep them at $20 or less per year, which for the benefits recieved, is more then fair. |
I love the idea of an association. I will find out what it cost to mass produce the VICCA patch and that can also be a benefit for joining the association. We can even put it on a hat?
