I'm building a storage that will contain all cpus I own for the moment (~530) but all future ones and doubles too...

All cpus will fit into small rooms of their dimensions in order for them to not move.
And they will have to be easily catchable !

The storage will go onto a rack fixed to a concrete wall in an area of 107x40x30 cm (Lxdxh)

This was the needs.

I've made a litle plan :

Extract :

PS : This topic is translated from a topic I made in a french forum. Here is the original topic (http://www.deuttai.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=263).
Sorry if I translate badly...

You have spent some time on your plan. You would have won the best display contest we had about 6 months ago with this I think Smile

Look great!

There could be if you just buy the first CD cases you find.

I bought a sackful on Friday but I went into a PC shop where I know the guy, and was able to open up a pack to check for their potential for picking up static (rubbing them on nylon leggings and other ways to see if they picked up static). Might seem bizarre to some people, but I'd rather look weird doing something like that than ruin a collection that'd be heart-breaking to lose Smile

Can anyone post a pick of a cd case with chips inside? I want to organise my chips in the way skold proposed, but I'm stuck with chips floating all around the case. Am I doing something wrong?

I think you need to have some anti-static foam cut to the size of the cd case inside, then you simply cut out the exact shape for the cpu in the foam and press it into the hole. This way you can see both sides. I think CD cases are too small for some cpus? Do they make clear DVD cases?

Ok, let's go for photos of this storage.

It is not finished, missing more than half of racks, but it can already contain all my collection...

Very nice!!!!

.. but see the problem of SMD chips on the run in the drawer!!!!!!

Which chips would you take in a fire? Keep them in a drawer you can grab on the way out.

I've some plastic racks for SMD chips, but it is for SQFP-208 only (or almost only).

I plan to make separation for such chips, like on the plan (first picture on this thread).
