|
|
| Hi! I'm a newbie on this site..I just want to seek some advice from the readers regarding my change in components. I'm planning to revive an old motherboard given by a friend (Asus P5PE-VM) as a replacement for my damaged board with an existing Pentium 4 641 processor and a 256mb 128 bit Geforce 5500 FX AGP card. However, the website states that I have to use a 1066 FSB Core 2 Duo chip if I still use the AGP card. Is there any option available to use my current 800mhz P4 chip so that I can still use the AGP card? A BIOS update perhaps? Or do I need to buy a Core 2 Duo chip? (I'm eyeing on C2D E6400 or E6600 just in case which is also compatible with the Asus board). I use my rig surfing the net & playing light games most of the time and a complete overhaul is just too costly for me, so this is the only route wherein I can save money. Any suggestion shall be appreciated. Thanks! |

| I had one of these and my AGP card worked just fine with a P4 3.4 (550) |

I think you've read the warning wrong, it should be the other way around.
If you use a 1066FSB CPU, you should be using it with an AGP card (not the integrated chipset video).
No problem with 800MHz anyway. |

Maybe I misunderstood the instruction. So therefore can I still use a 800mhz P4 or 800mhz C2D chip if I will install the AGP card?? Pls advice.. Thanks. |
