I emailed sammyc for a second opinion after a concern I have with the item in question. You'll all know about it soon - I might be warning you about a dodgy seller.

debs. seller looks fine - don't go shouting his name about - as I said they are not rare or hard to get. they appear on ebay a lot.

Suggest posting on the want to buy forum.

I'm most likely just letting my paranoia get to me. I'll post a request when I've finished paying for everything I already bought (gotta make sure I'm not overstretching myself too far, there are some items I hope to get outbid on so I can up my bid on one specific item I really want!

It's hard work every time I realise I need to get responsible with my spending Smile

Well, I hope it is what the photo shows Smile

It was a K6-2/533, and the photo shows an engineering sample. Starting bid was only £0.01 (hence my saying I'd pay a thousand times the starting bid) and I just won it for £10.70. Auction number http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6841112323

I got suspicious because the guy listed a second, identical chip 6 days after the first, with the same photo same description etc, and from his feedback history it looks like it's his first time trading a processor - seems odd that he'd have 2!

I'll let you all know when I get it, I'm sure I was just being paranoid when I posted last night. I have bid on the second, and hope to receive the first before the second one ends (that's just because I'm impatient).

The seller emailed me after the end of the auction

It's not an engineering sample, so my paranoia was justifed, and fortunately I had asked about it Smile He is not going to hold me to my bid, as I am not currently interested in an OEM version of this processor (I need to keep the money back for raising my bid on another item).

As such I'm happy to say that the seller had made a genuine error which was not intended, and the image was just one he had found as he didn't have a camera and didn't realise that the item was not the same. He has also cancelled the other identical auction.

This happens a great deal on ebay. Some sellers get clever and web search for a description/picture, this is often wrong and there are tears all round. Or money back Very Happy
