I got this Slot 1 Intel (there was no heatsink on it)

I was searching for the spec as usual on the cache chip. But there is no spec on the whole CPU...are there ones, that had its numbers only on heatsink?

Probably no.
But you can test it and reveal the core stepping and limit the list of possible sspecs to a few.

Slot P2 and P3 are impossible to tell what they are without the plastic casing. You can narrow it down to a range, but that's about it. The spec on the cache chip (if it has one) as far as I know is no indicator of the speed of the chip.

And you may get an even more exact range of SSpecs if you read their revision with CPU-Z/ or similar programs.

That's how I get a more exact SSpec:

E.g. I have a Pentium II Deschutes 400 MHz (without knowing it before)
After BIOS POST check I know that it is a 400 MHz CPU. And 400 MHz can only be Deschutes, not sth. else.
Then I try to find it on CPU-World.

Possible SSpecs:
Q561 Q562 Q724 Q739
SL2U5 SL2U6 SL2VW SL357 SL37G SL38N SL3D5 SL3EE SL3F9

Okay, that's alot. Bad example Laughing

Now I open CPU-Z to detect the revision of this CPU. -> dB0 is the revision. So it can only be Q562, SL2U5, SL2U6, SL357, SL37G, SL3EE, SL3F9) Laughing Laughing Laughing

On other CPUs it works better Laughing

My P1 and PPro system comes first, then I want to build up a P3 system but up to then, I'll put it back to the " Will test it someday" box Very Happy

It is very interesting to hear that the specs can be indirectly seen.

CPU-Z is a nice progrm. so far Smile

thanks for all your good advice
