Just got this in from AVICC, i knew it was an unusual chip, but a picture's worth a thousand words Smile I was thinking it was a microcontroller with a massive EPROM die with it.

I've looked at it under a microscope at work, it appears to have a pair of Toshiba TC574000 dice in it, presumably wired to operate in parallel as a 4Megabit x 16 EPROM, as it's in the correct 42 pin package that most 16 bit EPROMs use.

It appears the lid is glued on with epoxy, not using glass frit like windowed EPROMs usually have.

Hi,

I've just seen such an EPROM with a double die package in a Waverscal Integration Databook. Try to look for WS57C010M...

You can find the databook containing this chip here:
www.bitsavers.org/pdf/waferscaleIntegration/_dataBooks/1990_WSI_CMOS_Memory_and_High_Performace_VLSI.pdf

Cheers, Berni

Cool you found a datasheet for such a weird device Smile I'd love to actually see one of those WS57C210M modules, as they have no less than 4 256K dice in them, per the datasheet!!! THough they appear to have the same type of two windowed package as this one. The datasheet doesn't show the thickness of the package, though it's probably similar..
