I want to buy a pc. I decided to go with intel as they have more single core performance. But amd are cheaper. So i cannot decide. The below are the two.
1. Core i5 3470 , hd 7770, gigabyte h61m sp2 and 400w.
2. Amd phenom ii x4, hd 7790, Asus h61m d3h (usd 3.0) and 500w.
Which is better and why? |

lets hear some prices and then we will be able to make a better informed decision. amd vs intel with out value doesn't share enough information for us to make an informed choice when price is involved.
money to the wind, intel.
shallow pocket, price vs performance.
as you see, it's never JUST amd vs intel. it's also never JUST amd or JUST intel. both have their respectable places and as such, both need the respectable consideration of what and where the platform (amd or intel) will be used.
if you have the money though, the 3470 will be A LOT stronger than an Phx4; By about 30% as from what i can gather. |

| The i5-3470 will obliterate the Phenom II x4, no doubt. The 7790 is a marginally faster card than the 7770, but i'm not sure i'd trade that much CPU power for a slightly faster card. Personally i'd take the i5. |

Yes. The 7770 uses a max of 80W, so 400 W total should be fine in that system. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

In response to your question by PM, yes the 7770 will run fine in a PCI-E 2.0 motherboard. The 7770 would not be able to take full advantage of the extra bandwidth offered by PCI-E 3.0, so operating at 2.0 or 2.1 speeds won't affect it. It's only in high end gaming that you would see the difference, and at this spec you aren't going to be playing the latest and most power hungry games _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

i was also curious about upgrade-ability when it came to the amd board. |

in comparison the radeon hd 6970 has 176 gb/s bandwidth and is pcie 2.1.
even in a pcie 2.0 board the 7770 will never reach the bandwidth limit, so there is nothing to worry about. |
I thin you are confusing the internal bandwidth, which is the rate the GPU can transfer data with the integrated memory, with the rate at which data can be transferred over the PCI-E bus. The internal bandwidth is much higher than the PCI-E bandwidth, which is 5 GT/s on PCI-E 2.x and 8 GT/s on PCI-E 3 _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
