Some time ago I was looking for info about SA5V1X and couldn't find any useful information. I think that the second part "5V1X" is decoded the same way as for the "&E..." markings, that is "5 Volt, 1X external clock speed". "SA" could mean the opposite of "&E", i.e. non-SL enhanced. I'll try to confirm it when I build 80486 test system.

Is this mystery solved? I get today one SA5V1X CPU and I'm wondering what that marking means.
Could it be used before &E5V1X marking? I looked my own cpus and many sites also and found that every SA had a datecode 1993 week 3x or week 4x. Oldest &E cpus (what I quickly found) had datecodes 1993 week 4x, but no week 3x. Or is it SL enchanced at all? _________________ 1242 x86 CPUs in my collection (week 2 2026). |

Some Intel 80486 processors were called 80486SA and 80486SB. I suspect that the "SA" (and there is also "SB") prefix may have something to do with this. I never tried to go through datasheets to determine the differences between original 486 processors, "SA" and "SB" processors, so I can't confirm this theory.
