I would like to get help to figure out what these chips are, that I got from a board that I have desoldered about 12 years ago without knowing what it was. It could be rather challenging.

What I know/remember from it:
- It's clearly a POWER1 processor
- It's coming from a RS/6000 system 7012 because of the form factor of the card these were on
- I had one chip socketed, but it had no heatsink as usually seen on the usual POWER1 I/O chip
- It did not had any small chips in cans, like seen in a row on the RIOS boards
- It had a regulator board with a large hearsink
- It also came with a MCA graphic card, that I have desoldered as well, and I have mixed the chips from both boards. If I remember correctly that graphic card had only one "thick can" package... maybe two at most.

Now the big quizz is: would it be possible to know from which revision of the POWER1 chipset these chips are from, and what part of the CPU they are? (the cache would be easy to spot, as it's twice the same chip). I have googled to find pictures of POWER1 boards but none seems to match what I had.

Here are the IBM P/N:
- 32G9219
- 32G9327
- 32G9323
- 32G9290 (The socketed one)
- 32G9294 (L2 cache?)
- 32G9294 (L2 cache?)
- 82F5701 (could be one from the graphic card because of different PN)
- 32G9319
- Uncapped one, unknown, don't have the cover anymore.

I started to unpack the top ones. Only the upper left one was in a "thick can" package and could have been part of the POWER board. The "thin cans" were not found on the CPU board from what I remember.

I have also dumped the entire microcode from the EEPROM that was on the CPU board. That's how it starts:

Code:

sockets with a heatsink (usually) is a MMU/IO chip for POWER

37F1421 is a Data cache (other part numbers were used too)

and some more info here:

Yep, no luck yet, nothing matches :p

My board did not have that one (the usual look with the attached heatsink)

Well I have made progress!

http://kirpantin.vv.si/video.htm

The very last graphic card on that site was almost like the MCA card I had. The 32G9294 is on it. But then... I have 2??!

Thanks to the memory card I have thinned down the model.

It's a System 7012 model 340, 350, 355, 360, 36T, 365, 370, 37T, 375

Still leaves a lot of possibilities, but the only one released in 1992 (the date in the microcode) was the 340. Hmmm...

I have one POWER1 processor card that indicate six chips to perform as a CPU.

There are: (from top left to down right)

FPU X 1
FXU X 1
ICU X 1
DCU X 2
SCU X 1

Will it be:

Here are the IBM P/N:
- 32G9219
- 32G9327
- 32G9323
- 32G9290 (The socketed one)
- 32G9294 (L2 cache?) = DCU
- 32G9294 (L2 cache?) = DCU

Thanks bccwchan,

your board is a Power2+ CPU

Actually, since I was planning to do some sort of IBM P/N database that is "chip" oriented (rater than boards or computer oriented like most documented material), would it be worth creating a new topic to share pictures of IBM related stuff?
I would build this base upon verifiable data. I have already started something in that idea with more regular PowerPC P/N, but there's a missing gap for the more exotic POWER and PowerAS series.
