I am planning on upgrading my cpu and my brother brought up a good point, why not purchase a Xeon Es 1230 V2 instead of an i53570k. Its the same performance, can't oc, but you get hyper threading. I never thought about it before, and dunno how well it would work.

So what are the benifits of using a server cpu over a desktop, and vise versa, also can i use a regular desktop motherboard or do i have to buy a new server specific one?

First off, you'd better make sure your mobo supports xeon processors. That xeon proc is going for about $229 at Newegg while the i5-3570K is on sale for $179.99 at Microcenter. Personally, I like the i5-3570k for the price.
