I acquired this interesting IBM board. It has two IBM PPC604BJ120C processors and two types of large LSI chips. One LSI number is L5A9017. The other four chips are L5A6241. Does any one known what these chips are?
Thanks Norm

I got a Bull board with the same chips, but my boar has 2 PPC cpus, still one of the LSI L5A9017 it is heatsinked and 4 of the L5A6241, the first LSI chip is socketed
my guess was that the L5A9017 is a cache controller and that the other one is cache memmory, which would make the L5A6241 a 512kb memmory chip since my board has 1Mb L2 cache per cpu, Im not a 100% sure since there are 18 chips (16 on the other end from the CPUs and 2 next to the CPUs) on the board made by motorola and the got the code
MCM7A618AFN10
WQQJV9619
if these are memmory chips then I dont know what the LSI chips are otherwise Im pretty sure the LSI chips are L2 cache

Im about a 100% sure now, I just looked at http://www.datasheetarchive.com and there I found that the motorola chip is just a "General-Purpose Static RAM - Latched address & data" chip
which can hold
Number of Words = 32k
Bits Per Word = 18
so its certainly not my ram, so the LSI L5A6241 is a 512Kb L2 cache chip and the L5A9017 is most likely the cache controller |
