|
|
Ok, it's official, I know I'm an idiot, I didn't read the specs carefully enough, I was swept up in the moment thinking of superfast processing speeds and no more overloaded cpu lags. I bought a pentium 4 mobile chip and all I have is a desktop mobo. Am I definitely going to fry my board and the chip like my toast in the morning? Let me give you the dirty details:
I bought a Pentium P4 3.06Ghz 1M 533Mhz Socket 478 Chip Here are all the other specs from the seller that I don't know what they mean:
CPUID String: 0f34h
Core Voltage: 1.25 - 1.400v
Thermal Guideline: 88.0W
Core Stepping: D0
Thermal Spec: 75 Degrees Celsius
Manufacturing Technology: 90nm
Bus/Core Ratio: 23
This is right from Intel. It also says it's a Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor 532 (typo?) with Hyper-Threading technology. I know I know, I guess the word mobile must have been selectively deleted from my perception, please no lectures I feel dumber than a rock already.
Ok, so now the other side of the equation, my Motherboard:
It's a Gigabyte 8IEX with an Intel 845E Chipset, socket 478 533Mhz FSB Currently running a terribly slow Celeron 1700.
So, how much of a risk am I taking plugging this thing in to my board? The seller says that it is possible to use it in a desktop, but he was selling it (stupid me...argh...).
I am appealing to the chip gods here, can one of you socket-soldering, pin bending, overclocking, heatsinking CPU geniuses help me? (Will flattery get me nowhere? ) |

Sorry, I think you'd be nuts to try it.

Ok, just a little bit more information. I'm doing my own research here too, I'm not just looking for a handout (although I won't refuse one!). If you surf to http://web.uvic.ca/~jblas/cpuz.htm you will find all the information I can find on my specific current CPU, motherboard, etc. If that helps... thanks for taking an interest.
Cheers,

| I was afraid of that. What is it about the cpu that makes it incompatible? If it's a simple answer, no need for a 3000 word essay or anything... |
