Oh how this would be easier if I had a camera or scanner!...

I've come across a Cyrix processor which I can't identify at all. It's a Socket 7 processor, in a Ceramic PGA package, rather like an Athlon. The main visual difference between this and an Athlon is that the Cyrix has 2 small capacitors (is that what they are?) at each end of the heat spreader and 3 on either side, with nothing else on the surface. There are no markings on the heat spreader (unlike with the Duron and Athlon).

The only markings are:

On top, at the bottom edge:
T28118 29L3737 PQ

On the bottom:
COPR. CYRIX
1995-1998 USA

If nobody has been able to help me identify it before I get a camera I'll post a pic, but that may still be 3 or 4 weeks (I'll probably post a pic anyway, because it looks unusual to me...). Meantime, I need to set up a table in my spare room so I can get my test rigs set up, then I can set this up to get the CPUID value (assuming it's not a strangely packaged GxM, then I'll have problems - I may blow the chip before I try it in my GxM board, hence needing info first...)

It's probably a Cyrix MII in FC-PGA package with the lid removed. There was a picture in this forum somewhere, I can't find it right now.

I think you're right, having checked various other MX and MII processors in my collection. Now all I have to do is stop saying I'm going to set my test rigs up and do it Smile Then I can set it up as an MX to test it (my CPUID code will test it from a DOS boot floppy), and if it works I'll just think of it as an interesting but damaged item Smile
