Hello everyone,

I would like to upgrade the processor in my laptop to an i7. Last saturday I shoved 8GB of ddr3 in it to help with virtual machines but it wont cut the cheese.

Specifics:

Make: Sony Vaio
Model: SVE151D11L

Processor: i3 2370m @2.4Ghz
Socket: 988B rPGA

Chipset: Intel Sandy Bridge Rev. 09
Southbridge: Intel HM76 Rev. 04

Bios: Insyde Corp.
Version: 0180E5
Date: 04/24/2012

If anyone could please help me. I believe I provided enough information about this laptop.

If I missed anything important just ask.
A list of compatible processors would be nice.

Done! Has been working perfectly for 3 weeks!

The highest you could go and maintain the same TDP would be the Core i5-2540M. Anything i7 is going to be 10-20 watts higher on the TDP. Some laptops that are offered with a range of CPUs are able to accommodate CPUs with a higher TDP. That said, I don't see anything that suggests that your laptop was ever offered with anything in the i5/i7 family. The i5 is a safe bet in my opinion, but the i7 may not fly.

Bought it anyways. We'll see in a week if it works.

In case you didn't read the edited post.
My i7 swap is working perfectly and I can really feel the 2x performance boost.

Host OS: Windows 7
VM OS: Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu Server, Windows XP, Server 2012.

I'm going for a 16GB ram upgrade next month Wink
