|
|
I know that sometimes, the passion for something gives us a great joy and pleasure, but sometimes make us spend too much.
Always love tech, and sometimes looking at magnifying lupe some details in the chips its like enjoying a beautiful precious stone of technology. Gives me great pleasure.
But i like to have control in the costs, and after some math i find that already spend 280€ - 330$ in just 3 mouths to get just 100 chips...and i keep simple i don´t collect same models of different speeds...
Its tabu to ask the relation of chips costs? to the number in the collection?
I know that some chips are more expensive that others and other are gifts.
Its fun to do and see the math...
My numbers:
- 330$ / by 120 chips = Estimate costs 2,75$ per chip in 3 months of start
- My more expensive pentium pro - 25$
- My best find a Intel q8044E in a 120$ scrap lot of 39 cpus...
- My wish item, a IBM MCM or other mammoth under 50$...
Thanks i love to see some numbers with the big collectors

Hallo,

don't count the money you spend on girlfriend you love
the car drive costs way less than i've spent on my collection
but.
Sometime your collection would surprise you.
Recently I wanted to buy rather expensive vintage CPU.
I didn't like the idea just to spend the cash... so I selected up to 30 not so common chips to sell to cover the sum I need ($280).
Then I decided to add to my sale some chips extra (I doubted there were enough chips for sale).
The chips sold not bad. Someone asked for extra chips and I had them...
100+ chips were sold. But I'd say... I would not have noticed if these chips just disappeared.
I calculated the sale total... Surprise!

Well I've spent about 1000€ or even a little bit more on collecting CPUs since I started collecting about one year ago. If I count the shipping, I should have spent much more. About 1500-1800€...
Paid really much for logistics.
That's how you end up like if you don't have a girl you can spend all the $$ on _________________ Check out my museum project with more than 1500 CPU pics: http://www.cpumuseum.jimdo.com/ |

we always spend to much with the girls ... but sometimes the money its best spend in chips than a new fashion carpet...
But i am newbie and i am still in a learning experience about the prices used market. One scrap seller here in Portugal, tried to sell me 280€ kg all the ceramic ones and 30€ the plastic ones.
That is were i start my collection with just 20 or 30 chips and pay 150€ that day...but this was the moment i find this forum and start learning a little about the prices.
But its great to sell somes chips that we have, and spend in new ones...its fun too.
Any one please can post the current prices Kgs here in Europe in the different categories of chips. That will help a lot newbies like me.
Great 1 May holiday to all !!!

Pricing on the thread is quite accurate, but could go +10%/-10% depending on gold spot price.
Thank you for mentioning me guys _________________ Recycling company in the north of the Netherlands

Great post, thanks for the price table. Helps a lot for my next visit to scrap guy !!! and will bring with me my wife precision kitchen scale
I am going to buy some more next week, and this time i will be more small ones with less weight, and less heavy ones.
Maybe this way i could keep the ones i like, and sell/trade some to balance the cost ?... any one use this tecnic to save money?
Best regards |

I do that all the time. Buy a lot, sell the ones you don't need and voila, you will probably breakeven, may even make little bit extra for your next purchase. |

Its really true that a 386 or 486 have so many gold to recycle to a 180$ or 200$ kg ? i saw some pictures of the core and i don´t see huge quantity of filaments of gold, and its pure gold 24kilates or less pure gold.
Or its others precious metals in the core? |

A number of sellers list chips at inflated prices, hoping to find a buyer with too much money. Never be afraid to offer a fraction of the original price on those listings, a decent seller will have an idea of the real value _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
