The left one is a 486 of some sort, but the right one? _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

I wouldn't think so. 486 era cache controllers were PGA, not SPGA. _________________ General failure reading disk in drive A

If i count correctly its a PGA325.
The listing from eBay states they are from a Intel employee (not proving its an intel chip...) _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

well the die & package of the left one matches early Intel DX2-50/66s
The DX2 in Genna's 80486 Promotion Kit matches it also
http://www.cpu-world.com/Memorabilia/80486/Promotion_kit/
The right one is interesting.. being a SPGA
guessing it is from post 1993, as the socket 5 was the 1st commercial SPGA and the earliest was week 43 1993
The earliest non processor in SPGA package was the 82498 cache controller, but the 1st samples of them wasn't until early 1995
and they were also socket 5 sized
even looking at other manufacturers it appears they didn't use the SPGA package until 1995.. and all were Pentium sized or larger
High res pics of the die is the only probably way of determining what this one is
Edit >> on a side note the earliest reference I can find for SPGA packages is a patent from May 1993.
The actual patent is for a SPGA processor removal tool originally lodged by Cyrix
The funny thing is that VIA (Cyrix) has kept paying money to keep the patent current _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
