I've had an 8 yr old LGA 775 computer with Core 2 Duo E4600 cpu (2Gb DDR-400 RAM, 256mb 128 bit Geforce AGP card) a set-up that is quiet old really. Most of the time majority of my work involves internet surfing, email, light gaming and word processing. I have some thoughts of assembling a low-cost LGA 1155 system but I'm tentative about it. Therefore my question is: Is the LGA 1155 system faster or more snappier than LGA 775 in terms of internet surfing? With those tasks I mentioned, my old system seems to be working fast that's why I'm reluctant to upgrade. Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Hello.
Well, if your current setup is doing OK, I don't see real need to change anything.
But I would recommend at least basic GPU with hardware video decoding for LGA775...
What Mainboard U got there ?

PS. Today, low cost LGA1150 is better option than LGA1155 Smile

For internet surfing and the like, a 775 machine isn't bad. If cost is a concern and you're on a tight budget, I'd look at what faster chips your board would support. A faster chip (E8400?) would probably make a huge difference, but if your board uses classic DDR, i'm going to guess that you're probably not going to be able to use a 1333FSB chip. Agent_x007 is right, a socket 1150 board would be the best option to upgrade to. A low end 1150 board, 4GB of RAM, and a Pentium G3220 (Haswell core) will set you back only $150, and would run circles around your old system. If you could stretch your budget to $220, you could upgrade to a Core i3-4130, and it would absolutely destroy your current setup.
