Have been busy lately going through all my Intel Chips and cataloging them and came across this one which is quite interesting.

Your comments appreciated

What do you want to know more than it's a fake ?

probably was a desktop 120
but could also be a 90 or 100 mobile.. early enough that made before they changed to iMPP die caps

only way to tell is use some wet n dry sandpaper on die cap to expose the old markings under the black paint

Na I want to keep it as it is for the novelty value Laughing

But it is interesting that they did not change the Sspec to a legit one for a Pentium 133Mhz.
It would have made it harder to spot if they had. Wink

As I said I have been boxing and cataloging my chips.

My Son in Law recently built me this shelf that runs from floor to close to the ceiling in my small office and I think I need at least another 2 just like it.

I bought several hundred of these blue boxes for 20c each, they come as a flat pack, and they can hold up to 20 Pentium size CPU's in each box with dividers between each layer of chips.

This shelf has only Intel Chips in the boxes and holds 304 boxes with the average box having about 10 Chips in each.

I still need more room just for my Intel Chips Rolling Eyes

You mean the quality of "Intel Pentium" marking seems legit? Very Happy

I'll post mine, it's more fun.

No, but at a quick glance the quality of the engraved markings looked OK and it was only because I was looking for Pentium 120 Chips and was sorting them by Sspec that I picked up on it initially.

Yesterday there was a documentation in German TV about the "scrap mafia".
Approx. 75 percent of European ond even more of American old electronics gets not recycled properly but ends up in Africa or East Asia where eg. chips are desoldered, cleaned, remarked and sold as new. Buyers are everybody. A brandnew iPhone, Mac, or PC might contain desoldered old components.

There was one interesting hint: If the chip smells like lemon it is remarked. And they did not show expensive examples, chips for some cents get remarked and faked. Partly completely regardless if they work or at least might do the job or not.

A clear signal that every chip has fake examples. And these guys do not care for these details. They do not care for environment or the health of "their workers" so why should they...

That is now but I suspect the the SY033 above was faked back in the 1990's about the time when Pentium 133's were released for sale or soon after.
