|
|
Going through my wafer boxes before I move back to Hong Kong - came across two weird looking wafers and decided to take a closer look. The wafers are in pretty bad shape and have not been handled well but are interesting - marked as "Motorola CISC" they have dies on them from two different micro-controllers - the 68HC705 and the 68HC711. The '705 is marked as "test chip". The Copyright date is 1993. Anyone got any idea of why they would have two different dies on one wafer? Could it be a test piece?

Yeah I am moving back as I missed the place too much AND the near 50% tax in Australia meant I was effectively working half the week for the government - a government by the way that as an immigrant I get NOTHING from - no Medicare, no education - nothing and I am not even allowed to vote for...
Work that out - I pay 50% of my salary over to them and still have to pay for schools, doctors and dentists...... _________________ best rgds.

And I just noticed there are two versions of the '711 device - one with memory/cache and one without - weirder still!! _________________ best rgds.

| The added 7 to 68hc11 or 68hc05 indicated that the chip had UV erasable memory added (EEPROM). We used these chips for development back in the early 90s. You can still pickup these quartz windowed beauties for a few bucks on ebay occasionally. |
