Seen similar ones before, pretty rare, any guesses?

That was my original thought.. but not so sure these days Confused

This KJ8.. and others been A8... and Pro being 6th generation
Leaning more towards some other platform that never saw the light of day.. and maybe not CPU
But then again A-1 Pro ES came out weeks 6 - 13 1996
then B-1 Pro ES came out from week 43 1996
so these fit in between these

KJ8TSMR00-BA 1994 die 9617 test 9628
A8CNIC A-2 1995 die 9623

TSMR maybe Test sample Memory Reduced

The thing that stood most out for me was the use of USA and not A4

Intel stopped the use of USA in 1994 and some products changed as early as 1993

Here is some die pics of one of these
They appear to be an early cache test (perhaps 512k)

Nice one. Even nicer that you open up a one of a kind chip to reveal its insides!
As far as I remember from photos of PPros, it is possible to see some differences in the cache die, between a 256 and 512 part. If possible, you might consider comparing this chip with the two different.

yah the 256k chip is rather diff, this looks closer to the pair of 512k chips used in a 1MB ppro
