... hi,
I think it was about in 1995. Really the first cpu in my hands for the "New PC" was I386/DX25, but I bought with good price new MOBO with AMD486/DX100. Thus I386/DX25 was alone in its box as a base new idea - CPU Collecting. So, the second item I can add after cca 5-6 years, P150 from PC in my works. Now it is history, the goldtime, with gold-cpu.

I guess the first, I decided to save, was my AMD 5x86-P75 X5-133ADW. Then, I think an IBM or Cyrix 6x86 from a friend of mine's retired PC. I think I might have kept a few more, but:
What made me think of actually collecting CPU's was when I got my hands on a set of an i386DX-33 IV (SX544) and i387DX 16-33. Looking at this I thought about how impressive powers that was, when they were new. That had got to be collected. |

| It probably started when I didn't sell or give away my K6-2/500 m/b+CPU when I switched to a Palomino based system (which didn't have ISA slots anymore). Then my little collection grew to like 60-70 pieces during the years on CPUs I could get cheap or for free. Then, suddenly, it counts like 300 CPUs MCUs and FPUs. The main focus is still x86 but I'm happy to have anything outside that scope. It's just there's much more of the x86 here. |

| I'm not sure when I started collecting CPU, but I did save the original 80386 CPU after I swapped out with newer 80386 on my IBM PS/2 Model 80 when I attempted to installed Windows 95. With the original CPU on the machine during Windows 95 installation, it complains that the CPU has pre-B stepping. I think I still have it on my hand. |

Oh, I just remembered the very first CPU I didn't collect and I regret it now... No, wait. It wasn't a CPU but an FPU. I gave my very first FPU I used in my very first PC away to a friend. It was more than 20 years ago and despite my growing collection I still don't have a 8087...
I guess it would fit in the biggest collecting mistake topic too. |

| The reason for my profile pic is the 1st CPU I kept. Most likely because it was blue but also because it was the first I paid for. I saved money I made from a paper route for the whole summer to buy a used PC from a local store that I would bike to on a regular basis just to ask the owner questions. In a way that chip started my entire career, not just a hobby. |

My first 8087 math coprocessor that I brought for my late father about 30 years ago for the original IBM PC. IIRC, I paid about USD$109 or something. I still have it and the orignial PC |
