Hello, everyone.Today I ran into an interesting box of 80386CX marked sample. It comes with 4 chips on one board, with three 80386CX in different packages(one is even COB, as you can see the die) Very Happy
I have several questions:
1.are these chips really from Intel?
2.should they be classified as ES CS or others, as there is no printings on the chips except for the big logo. And, does these chips really contains a die, or just plastic samples?
and finally, are these chips rare, and had anyone saw them before?

Thanks to everyone!

Very neat set - great addition to a collection

I doubt they have dies, particularly as it says form factor sample board, but it doesn't matter if they do or don't, as I still think it is a very collectible set

Pfffffft, impressive. So cool that these things pop up from time to time:-)
Thanks for sharing.
1. I have no doubt they are real. Typical marking, also the font on the paper is Intel housefont of that time.
2. FFS, no ES:-)
Finally: As regular chips common, in this box pretty rare
I guess on ebay you would get a three digit price.

Nice to see you love this set, and thanks very much for your replies.
I hadn't got new chips for a long time, first because collective chips are becoming fewer and fewer, and the price is becoming high. Also, as a student I don't have much money and time to do collections.
This set was found when I was in the electronics store, buying parts for my design. I saw it and bought it without hesitation. The seller said it was from HongKong, and he would get some more if needed, though I seriously doubt that~
Still few questions about this set:
1.As 80386 DX SX and EX are common, I had never saw CX version. There is also little information about this series. Anyone knows what's the difference between CX and other chips?
2.And, what date may this set was made?
Thanks a lot again!

The 80386CX is an embedded version of 80386SX processor. It has one new instruction, but otherwise it's identical to the SX.

It's nice and very rare sales kit. My favorite chip is the one in the Chip On Board package.
