Carrying on from this thread and without wanting to clutter it further here is photo of my single board computer that I did several years ago in my final year in college.

Its an 8088 based single board computer with ROM/RAM/Clock Generator/PIO. I had to design the circuit, breadboard it to make sure it worked, design and layout the PCB and write some test software. The test software lights LED's connected to one of the ports in a sequencial sequence.

Anyway onto the piccy.

WOW, smart stuff.

totally over my head stuff as I never learnt about this sort of stuff... but loks neat. So you obviously have a good understanding of older chips.

(nice 8088 BTW Wink )

hey thats cool, I remember when I had to design a 386 SBC, what a pain (ran in SX mode so not AS bad though)
