Is it possible to damage the motherboard with chipset HM65 by inserting the first generation i7-720QM processor? Previous motherboard was HM55 and the processor work. After ordering a new motherboard with chipset HM65, put i7-720QM processor motherboard does not start. Seller claims that the board could be damaged because the processor should be second generation. Is this true? Both motherboards have socket PGA989.

No, as long as it was the proper socket, worst case, the board just won't boot, as the CPUID / VID was unsupported by the board.
