Journey Inside the Computer kit

A few months ago I bought an unopened Journey Inside the Computer kit. These were kits put together by Intel to be used in schools to teach kids about computers. It came to me by a very roundabout way. I forget the details, but I think it went via Cyprus and certainly didn't come by the most direct route from USA to Australia.
The one I bought is a second edition kit.
These kits usually contain a mechanical sample of some sort. Early ones had 486s, second editions have Pentiums (usually ceramic, but very occasionally they have goldcaps) and third editions usually have PPGA Pentiums. Its a bit of a lottery as to what you get. I have heard that some kits had standard production chips in them.

The inner carton opened. It is designed to look like a mid 1990s PC with monitor and keyboard.


The bottom of the box has a motherboard with Pentium cpu (with 'Processor' - I can't quite make out the sspec or speed) The hard drive has been anonymised.

The components inside the box. There is the main teachers guide, a video, some extra files for the folder and the chip kit.


The chip kit with the wafer. Not sure what the wafer is.


The chip kit with cpu, dies, batteries and wires. This was designed to teach the students what the parts of the cpu looked like and to do simple electronic experiments with the batteries and wires.


The cpu is a Pentium 75 marked as Mechanical Sample. It is dated week 21, 1995.

That's a very VERY good condition kit. I have three different ones and the boxes are looking a bit sad last time I saw them.

This kit had never been opened, not even the outer carton. I have a couple other kits and they are not in the best of condition. I bought this one not knowing what cpu I would end up with.
