Hi, I have an old Intel Core2 Duo Processor (E8200), and the fan is very noiy. Mad I want to replace it.

It seems that there are many different fans, but how to know if they will fit to my processor?

A suggestion for a less noisy fan (brand or model) would be great! Smile

My previous computer was a Core 2 Quad and I replaced the fan with a standard 120mm quiet case fan and attached it to the heatsink with some wire. Not an elegant solution, but it worked and was pretty much silent.

Thanks for this advice, that a nice do-it-yourself method Smile

I checked the fan: the plastic of the fan and the fixations for the motherboard are the same plastic piece. Thus, if I remove the fan, I won't be able to fix the heatsink and the new fan to the motherboard Sad

By doing so, I discovered that one of the four fixations wasn't well plugged in the motherboard. I corrected that, and the temperature of the CPU is now lower, but the speed of the fan (thus the noise level) has not changed. (I discovered dust between the heatsink and the processor Shocked).
