After a flurry of recent finds, my want list is pretty small from where it started and I’m happy with what I have accomplished.
But now what?
I feel the ones that are still on my list most likely only exist in other’s collections, and I don’t foresee myself expanding the current list much further.
So my question is basically what is everyone’s end game?
Do you expand your collection indefinitely?
Do you plan to take your collection to your grave, or will you likely sell or donate it?
Or do you have some other ideas to publicly show it or something?
I kind of feel like I’m done unless I manage to outlive other collectors and their wives EBay their collection....lol Just kidding, sort of, but I’d guess I maybe younger than most forum members.
Regardless I’m asking myself these same questions, I don’t want to look back a long time for now and see I did nothing with it besides collect dust. |

Also almost done. And I´m glad about that, because collecting all of them was very exhausting I enjoy them, because I have them exposed in the cabinet in my room and Looking forward I will test them one day. _________________ Looking For Chips 386 J38605DX, Symphony FPU, Rise Tiger, MP6-II, Winchip 3&4, IDT C6-Early Logo, Nx686, Tesla 8088, L80C86, Bulgarian 8088, Pentium 4 QT69ES. |

I keep growing my collection, as I learn more, and find more.
I take pictures of them, and eventually those go on my website, for all to see.
I also enjoy researching and writing about them, preserving the histories for the future generations as well as informing current collectors.
Eventually I want to transfer it to a living trust that will maintain it AS a museum _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

I'm fearly sure I dont have anything a bunch of other collectors dont also have but I would be willing to take pictures to fill in gaps for online database etc.
Or even someday donating to a museum if I have anything worthy. |

my dream is to open a museum... but im pretty sure will remain a dream.. i had a first exposition and more to come (in museums and shopping centers) .. i dont get any money but i enjoy the feedback i receive... and its a fantastic feedback... and i like to answer visitors questions... and other 'game' is to help them find their first CPU
i expand continue my collection.. i'll never stop (at least i hope)) ... i have 1500+ different CPUs , in the last year i started to collect video cards and i have more than 100 working and 100+ mobile GPUs ... and i try to build a working system for every CPU generation .. so a lot of directions to be active...
if will be an unexpected end, my instructions are to donate the collection to a museum _________________ https://www.facebook.com/CPUCollectionRO |

Only John, Robev and myself as far as I know have a grey stripe Intel C1302. Until you have that then your Intel collection is incomplete..... _________________ best rgds.

@c3h5:
Try to complete the Intel 486 full spec collection. I believe you will find this very interesting. (Most of them are doing this interesting game but no one finish.) |

I only collected CPUs and a few FPUs.
And only wanted 1 of say each class, not fequency or spec etc.
For me personally I don't get much value in having a bunch of similar chips they must be visually different for the display I have.
So this obviously cuts my collection needs way down.
But when I get extras or similar chips I prefer to trade them away then store them in a box and be forgotten. |

For me this is about journey not the destination. In fact reaching the end (getting all the chips I'm looking for) can be quite disappointing.
I (hopefully) have many decades left, so I haven't decided what to do with my collection. Public show or something like that might be an option or donation to the museum. _________________ 1242 x86 CPUs in my collection (week 2 2026). |

Oh, good question!
I think the fun of the collection can be complete if there are no people who will admire this collection. But for admiration need to understanding - therefore many here want to open a museum and telling people what cool things there are
I also think to organize an exhibition and stands already making (although I have a few really interesting) |
