|

| I'm upgrading my older HP desktop. It currently has an Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz 95W (part #ADX635WFK42GM) processor. I'm upgrading to a Phenom II X6 1055T 95W (Part #HDT55TWFK6DGR). I know my motherboard will support the new processor and they're both AM3 socket so those aren't issues. My only question is whether my existing, stock heatsink will be sufficient for the new processor. Since they're both 95W TDP shouldn't the old one work? I'm not going to overclock the new processor. |

| Yes. The same TDP (Thermal Design Power) means that the same cooler can be used. |

| Thank you! I was pretty sure that'd be the answer but wanted to be certain. Didn't want to burn the new processor out. I guess when you shrink the geometry of the chip you can almost double the processing power without increasing the amount of heat thrown off. |
