I just found this mounted on a card in the "Emulator Pod" of a KSC In Circuit Emulator
Anyone have any idea on what this could be, hours of googling didn't result in anything? (No I don't have any documentation on the In Circuit Emulator and I have no idea on how to operate it)
I do have photo's but I'm not allowed to post them here as a guest user

What model info is there on the unit?
KSC seems to be a a software developer - KSC Software Systems (most commonly Pascal on 8051 systems)
The system is probably manufactured by another company & badged as KSC
like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/KSC-PMB5-In-Circuit-Emulator-/161177095673
Closest thing I could find was this http://www2.lauterbach.com/doc/ice51.pdf
KSC is a partner to Kleinhenz Elektronik & probably called "KSC Single Chip Emulator"
but you will probably need numbering off card to confirm what type of emulator

The device looks exactly the same as the KSC PMB5 In Circuit Emulator which is on ebay, but black and the brand is Kontron, not Kleinhenz
Not much to see on how to connect it. The two connectors in the emulator pod do fit exactly to the pod cables of an HP 1662A Logic Analyzer.. just wondering.. |

I was able to find some more information. KSC is a product of Kleinhenz, Kontron probably rebranded it. Through archive org I was able to find the software for the In Circuit Emulator, will try to connect it to an old pc and see if I can get any response from the device.
POD (the slot on the back of the In Circuit Emulator) does stand for Processor Oriented Device. The unknown ES chip I found is probably not the chip that's emulated, just a controller to connect a 8051 or related microcontroller, or it's a device specifically made to emulate several different 8051 variations (so it would only be found in In Circuit Emulators and not in the final embedded product)
I was able to find another ICE (isystems) for the 8051 which has a POD board with what looks like the same chip I have, but made by Philips (or NXP, it has the philips logo)
It can be found on google images by searching for IC81026.jpg
Too bad I can't read what is on that on that chip, and older versions of the isystems website (by using archive org) don't provide the answer.
I found some indications this might be an early version of the Philips XA-S3 chip, but the whole Philips XA stuff seems to be very rare.
If anyone is able to find more on this what looks like an engineering sample of a very rare Philips microcontroller, please let me know. |

| I forgot to mention the Ceibo EB-XAV2 uses a similar looking Philips controller, but without the gold center (google for ebxav2.pdf ) |

Hmm.. after several hours of googling, archive.org and going through datasheets and documents about embedded engineering.. I think I actually found out what this mysterious engineering sample (very probably) is.
Philips V-85C582E
Here is an image:

Would this ES be considered as a collectible chip or just rare and worthless? |
