|
|
I was sorting my chips and checking prices for sale, but I was unable to found information about this Cyrix MediaGX chip.
Text is a bit bad, but it reads GXm-220GP 2.9V 55C, backside is GHDC2742B. Only thing I found about 220GP was an part/order number 30047-23.
I have no motherboard to test it, but is it really 220MHz? What is the bus speed?
Some mathematically possible ones:
6,5 X 33,333 = 216,66
6 X 36,666 = 220
5,5 X 40 = 220
5 X 44 = 220
Any idea about value?
Or just weird fake? I looked the text with mini-microscope and it looks genuine to me, but I'm not an expert on MediaGX chips. _________________ 1242 x86 CPUs in my collection (week 2 2026).

I vote for fake.
There are two bus freqs for GXm: 30 and 33,
220 cannot be obtained from them.
And GXm multiplier can only be integer, from 4 to 10, 6,5 is impossible. |

MediaGXs fro some reason were very popular to fake
seen fake ones 'up to' 500MHz
Even saw a Fake one made out of a Pentium LOL (still said iPP on the bottom) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

So you think it's fake because it's 220 MHz model?
I made some more research and I found that 220 MHz MediaGXm was planned to be in Compaq Presario 2240, but for some reasons (supply problems?) it was replace by AMD K6. Not sure if 220GP was used in some other Compaq model, but Packard Bell also announced model using 220 MHz MediaGX.
Finally I found this Packard Bell's motherboard and there is mentioned CPU support for 220 MHz model and jumper settings for 31,5 MHz bus speed (7 * 31,5 MHz = 220,5 MHz). I also read somewhere that there were big problems getting chips to work at 233 MHz so maybe that's why they made short (?) time these 220 MHz chips?
Any comments? _________________ 1242 x86 CPUs in my collection (week 2 2026). |
