Cool. Now I gotta decide what bootable software to use to make the disk image after a fresh install and upgrade. Might even break a lifetime habit and buy a decent app Smile

Cool! Can you restore the primary partition from a boot disc?

yup
usually it will prompt and ask if you want to make a recovery disc
the recovery disc is generic, not specific to your machine, it just boots to where you can select where to recover from

Cool thread.

I've upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 about a week ago with everything running fine. All drivers previously installed in W7 have successfully survived the upgrade.

Except the shutdown time (it takes forever to shut down) I don't regret my decision to upgrade. At least it's free Laughing

That's great, I get bored waiting for all the updates on each install. They are by far the slowest part, and I never install apps before completing updates. A good 6 hours lost, it'll be great to get that down to under an hour Smile

I knew I bought a blu-ray for something other than burning movies I download Smile

I spent 2 years trying to persuade my friend to install Ubuntu. Do you know why he still did it recently? He read the Win 10 license agreement Very Happy

I've had Win 10 installed for a few days now, and other than the appearance and the fact updates will continue long after Win 7 loses support, I see no real difference. Had to upgrade Zone Alarm, O&O Defrag and the GPU drivers. The only real issue was the 6 hours of Win 7 updates prior to upgrading, and on the first attempt the upgrade failed and rolled back.

Now I have a system disc image, the next reinstall should take under an hour, instead of a full day.

I used the download link lither gave, and didn't need a registration key when upgrading, so keeping the disc for other systems.

One thing I can't figure out, does anyone know how to get rid of the 25GB windows.old directory? Most of the thousands of files are protected by TrustedInstaller, whatever that is!

Answered my own question. I googled windows.old and it was a two minute process to get rid of Win 7 and its baggage.
